Haniel Scholarship Programs

The Haniel Foundation supports two kinds of scholarship programs for MPP students at the Brandt School: The Go-West Scholarship program for applicants from Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and the Haniel Stipends for highly qualified applicants from Western Europe, North America and Germany. The latter are only available from the 2012-2014 study period onward.

The Go West scholarship program was launched in 2001 and is an initiative of the Haniel Foundation and the Klaus Tschira Foundation. Both foundations fund and run the program together in cooperation with partners such as the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy.

Go-West scholarships are open to applicants from Eastern European and Central Asian Countries (CSI Region only). Go-West scholarship holders receive a full scholarship in the amount of 750 € per month for the duration of the two-year Master of Public Policy at the Brandt School. Each year up to four scholarships are awarded.

Haniel scholarships are based both on academic merit and need. To be considered for a scholarship you need to come from an eligble country, have an excellent academic record and indicate your need for a scholarship in your personal statement.

To apply for the scholarship applicants indicate their interest by checking the respective box on page four of the general MPP application form. Several steps further down the applicaton process - after admission to the program - we will provide applicants with the scholarship application form which needs to be completed and sent back to us. The selection process then takes about 2 weeks within which we will inform applicants to the scholarship about the results.

Haniel Stipends will be available from 2012 onwards and are open to applicants showing excellence from Western Europe, North America and Germany. Haniel stipends cover the costs of the tuition fees at the Brandt School for the whole two-year study period (6.000 €). Stipend rates will be allotted per term (1.500 € per term). Like the Haniel Go-West Scholarships Haniel Stipends are awarded to applicants who demonstrate exceptional accomplishment and intellectual promise.
