The Brandt School takes part in the Public Policy and Good Governance initiative led by the DAAD and the German Foreign Office.
The PPGG program aims at training young professionals and public leaders to implement transparent, efficient and democratic governance based on the rule of law and social justice. Future leaders from Africa, Latin-America, South-Asia, Southeast-Asia and the Middle-East are offered the chance to acquire a Master’s degree in programs of particular relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home countries. For that purpose, the DAAD works together with eight selected universities offering suitable practice-oriented degree programs. Since the program’s start in 2009, the Brandt School has been the largest partner. Since 2009, 60 PPGG scholarship holders have been studying in the Master in Public Policy at the Brandt School. Information on how to apply for a PPGG scholarship for studying at the Brandt School may be found here.
In addition, the Brandt School hosts two specialized programs: one focusing on International Conflict Management and the Good Governance in Afghanistan program (GGA) in concordance with the DAAD. The GGA supports a number of Afghan students each year to study the Master in Public Policy with the purpose of equipping these young adults for the challenges they will face in rebuilding the Afghan political systems when they return. Currently there are 38 Afghan students enrolled, of which a proportion have already completed the program and will soon return home.
The concentration in conflict studies and management is part of the Brandt School’s research and teaching focus on International Conflict Management and comprises of a master's, doctorate and fellowship component. As part of its “Public Policy and Good Governance-Program” the the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers five scholarships for students in the conflict management specialization track each year. For the 2011-2013 study period, five (5) slots will be available for DAAD scholars and awarded upon meeting the Brandt School's general admission requirements.
