New framework agreement includes increase in general university funding in Thuringia

A new framework agreement that was signed in January by representatives of the federal state and the Thuringian universities recognizes the need to invest in education and research in Thuringia. Between 2016 and 2019, the universities will gradually receive more money. While this year they will receive 382 million Euro, in 2019 the total amount adds up to 447 million Euro. This will allow the universities to spend more money on strategy development and innovations as well as to cover the increases in wages. The agreement responds to the financial needs of public universities and at same time defines ambitious targets and goals they have to reach, including the stabilization of the number of students, to support young researchers, to strengthen the co-operation with the economy and to sharpen their academic profiles.
