Dr. Ulrich Schlie

Ulrich Schlie, M.A., Ph.D., is a historian and the director of the planning and advisory staff at the Federal Ministry of Defence in Berlin. Having studied in Erlangen, Bonn, and at the London School of Economics, he earned his Ph.D. in 1992.

Among others, he has worked for the Federal Foreign Service and the chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Wolfgang Schäuble (1995-2001). He also taught at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. From 2003- 2005, he was advisor to the Prime Minister of the state of Hessen, Roland Koch.

Ulrich Schlie is author of several books and articles about the European history. He is member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Atlantik Brücke, and the Politisch-Militärischen Gesellschaft (PMG) and Chairman of the Board of the Carl Jacob Burckhardt Foundation in Vinzel, Switzerland. His main research interests are international politics, European history, and international law.
