Heike M. Grimm is assistant professor at the University of Erfurt. She served as the Director of the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy from 2006 until 2008 and as Deputy Director since June 2011. From 2004 until 2007, she was research fellow of the department "Entrepreneurship, Growth and Public Policy" at the Max Planck Institute of Economics in Jena, Germany,. Her research focuses on entrepreneurial public policy and strategic management for the promotion of state, local and regional economic growth in comparative perspectives. Before taking up her appointments at Erfurt and Jena, Dr. Grimm worked as a Senior Fellow of the Johns Hopkins University, Washington D.C., and the German American Centre for Visiting Scholars established by the German American Academic Council. Dr Grimm led diverse research projects focused on small business and regional economic development at the Research Institute of Public Administration of the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer, and at Munich University. In addition, Dr Grimm has worked as a consultant for the Ministry of Economics in Lower Saxony, the Ministry of Economics in Brandenburg, and for consultancies in Berlin, Hamburg and Brussels, Belgium. Furthermore, she worked with German and European associations for small and medium-sized enterprises promoting public policies for SMEs and start-ups. Continuing the transatlantic dimension of her work, she collaborated with the U.S. National Academy of Sciences on diverse publications and conferences.She studied Political Science, Economics, History of Economics and Arabic at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich and at the London School of Oriental and African Studies. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Munich.
