Janine Romero

Janine Romero is a doctoral candidate at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy since 2013. Janine’s doctoral research is supervised by Prof. Dr. Solveig Richter and focuses on resource politics in Bolivia and the specific role of the significant lithium reserves in the country. She is interested in the effects of a growing market for electric mobility on mining economies in Latin America and the governance responses that are developed.

Janine holds a Master of Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin and a Bachelor’s degree in Intercultural European and American Studies from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. Additionally, she has a degree in German as a Foreign Language. Throughout her academic career, Janine developed a regional interest in Latin America. She has studied and worked in Argentina and Bolivia.

Prior to her PhD research, Janine worked three years as a Policy Officer for the Federal Ministry of the Interior and one year for the Federal Ministry of Health in Germany. She completed several internships, namely at the German Foreign Office, the German Society for International Assistance (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit - GIZ) in La Paz, Bolivia and the German Cultural Institute (Goethe-Institut) also in La Paz, Bolivia.
Her research interests include resource politics and resource governance, Latin America studies as well as health policy.
