Brandt School research team at conference: “Building Sustainable Peace: Ideas, Evidence, Strategies”

From November 7 – 10, a research team of the Brandt School’s conflict management track participated in an international conference on “Building Sustainable Peace: Ideas, Evidence, Strategies”. At the renowned Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame in the US, Jalale Getachew Birru (PhD Student), Siddharth Tripathi (Post-Doc) and Solveig Richter (Junior Professor) presented their ongoing research projects, e.g. on elections in post-conflict countries or research perspectives from the Global South. As one of their highlights, they were able to meet and closely interact with Jean-Paul Lederach, an almost iconic scholar in the field of peace and conflict studies. Keynote lectures were also given by Severine Autesserre, Sujatha Baliga and Sergio Jaramillo Caro. Jalale, Siddharth and Solveig will bring lots of impressions back to the Brandt School, but most importantly with the knowledge that in face of global dynamics such as climate change, migration and pandemics, there are still multiple pathways to peace at the local level. Global challenges, local solutions!
