Daniar Matikanov joined the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as Security Risk Management Advisor in 2017 and is currently working as Senior Security Risk Management Advisor for the Yemen portfolio. He has extensive experience in Security Sector Reform Programs, Security Risk Management and Humanitarian Access focusing on the Middle East and Central Asia since 2007. Before joining GIZ, Daniar worked as Humanitarian Access and Information Analysis Manager at Mercy Corps to support the cross-border humanitarian operations for northern Syria from Turkey. Prior to that, he worked at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (OSCE) as Capacity Building and Training Assistant and Senior Police Reform Programme Assistant in Kyrgyzstan. Daniar studied Political Science and International Relations at the Cairo University in Egypt and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy with a specialization in Conflict Studies and Management from Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt, Germany. He is also active in academia participating in workshops, panel discussions and as an external lecturer at the University of Erfurt. Daniar is fluent in English, German, Arabic, Russian, Turkish and Kyrgyz languages.
